In 1984, a new social initiative to support indigenous communities called ‘The Intercultural Guaraní School Fortín Mbororé’ began. Its founders, Dr. Luis Honorario Rolón and Mrs. Ángela Sánchez were able to secure a land occupancy permit, and as a result, local indigenous communities (Mbya-Guaraní and Avá-Guaraní) were able to establish a central point of gathering.
What began with 15 students has now expanded to include 400 students through their primary education and supported into their secondary education. This was a joint effort, between municipal teams, governmental authorities, and of course community elders and families.
The current principal has been with the community since she began as a primary teacher. Now, she leads the way and has helped to systematically establish itself with full-day curriculum. Our relationship with them began in 2025 and we are thrilled for what is next. Our first-year project was created to facilitate recreational activities by updating their play-yard and to add shading to limit disruption.
Construction is scheduled to begin shortly, and we will keep you posted.

Guarani Village Fortín M’borore,
Ideas for Further Involvement:
As this project supports indigenous communities, we must always remember we are guests. There is not yet an official NGO established as a community partner. We are working to develop a way for people to support this community initiative directly. Principal: Estela Brítez Obregón, Vice Principal: Julio Hilario Ferreyra
