Zambia
Zambia has made significant progress in healthcare and education. Challenges remain, and even so, recent government initiatives show a commitment to making improvements for the nation. There are roughly 22 million citizens with one of the youngest populations in the world (Median Age 18).
Local Challenges:
The literacy rate is at about 80%. Gender-based outcomes remain a challenge and rural areas are especially vulnerable to multidimensional poverty.
Government Initiatives:
Primary education is at the core of the government’s recent initiatives. Receiving over half of the national education budget, the government has committed to ensuring every child has access to quality education and healthcare. The 2025 budget especially prioritizes additional learning materials, and classrooms.
Our Impact
In 2024, we began our partnership within Zambia by working with a local nonprofit called New Hope Waves. With their collaboration we were able to construct a new schoolhouse, giving much needed space for their coursework. Previously, half of their students attended class outside under nearby trees for shade. We are always happy to hear about what they have going on. They are working to address almost every component of multidimensional poverty. Select a project below to learn more.
