Guatemala
With a population of about eighteen million and a median age of 24 years, Guatemala is a vibrant and diverse nation. There are about four million students in Guatemala.
Local Challenges:
Infrastructure is a challenge, especially for rural schools and community-based services. The gap between primary and secondary education remains, and rural schools may not have access to internet.
Government Initiatives:
Increased government spending has been able to make progress. A recent focus on equity and access in education has emphasized the importance of community involvement and global partnerships. There has also been an increase in healthcare resources for the rural highlands.
Our Impact:
We have partnered with three schools in Guatemala, two are accessible and one is more rural. The school designation EORM is an indicator that it is both an official primary school for boys and girls together, and within rural communities. EORM’s are often community hubs themselves. Two of the schools we have partnered with are EORM’s and the third is an educational center that also provides vocational and technical curriculums.
